Computer Forensics, also known as Computer Forensic Analysis, is the methodical examination of digital media, such as personal computers, to establish factual evidence of illegal, unauthorised or unusual activities.
IntaForensics offers the following fixed-cost Computer Forensic services:
- Imaging Only:
This service creates a Forensic Image of digital media; preserving the integrity of the data for proceedings at a later date. The digital media can then be returned to the instructing party.
- Preview Computer Forensic Analysis:
This service involves searching the device for readily retrievable ('live') data. This form of analysis will identify if there is any information present that would sufficiently warrant a Full Forensic Analysis.
- Full Computer Forensic Analysis:
This service involves the search, recovery and analysis of all data stored on the device, including any that might exist in 'unallocated clusters', as would be the case if the user has attempted to delete a file, thus removing the pointer to the file but not the file's contents.
IntaForensics are able to conduct full and complete Computer Forensic Analysis on all types of media, due to the extensive combined experience of our team of analysts, alongside access to a wide variety of specialist tools and software.
IntaForensics investigations involve four main steps:
- Identification of possible sources of evidence
- Preservation of the evidence by making an exact copy of the original
- Computer Forensic Analysis of the evidence
- Presentation of the findings
All work completed by IntaForensics follows strict quality assurance guidelines, which includes the use of an auditable trail and peer approved processes to ensure that the integrity and continuity of the evidence is maintained. This means that the accuracy of the copied data is verified and every step of the analysis fully documented in strict adherence to the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) guidelines for the handling of computer based evidence.
