  • A police force suspected a group of individuals to be stealing peoples credit card numbers. They had been following the group for a period of time but had not managed to gain any substantial supporting evidence.

Following the raid of one of the individuals homes numerous Computers and Mobile Phone Top-up-cards were found. These were submitted for Forensic Analysis. Following the analysis of the computer 2 programs were found that were known to be used with magnetic swipe card readers and writers. These included several text files which were found contain data in the exact format as is stored on a bank/credit card.

The analyst then managed to extract the data stored on the Mobile Phone top-up-cards and found them to contain bank details of individuals not known by the suspects. Several of these details matched those of the text files identified on the during the Computer Forensic Analysis.

An Expert report was produced detailing the findings and all steps taking to produce those conclusions. This information was vital in the successful conviction of several members of the group.
