Digital Forensics

Digital Forensics is another name that is commonly used for ‘Computer Forensics’, and is the process of analysing legal evidence found in computer and digital storage mediums.

Digital Forensics can be used to collect evidence from a computer system, a storage media (such as a hard disk or CD-ROM), and an electronic document, (such as an email). The information extracted is then processed to work out what evidence can be discovered and the reasons for it being there.

Computer Forensics (or Digital Forensics) is commonly used to prevent and deter computer crime, as well as providing evidence in order to prosecute individuals who are guilty of illegally accessing a computer or digital storage medium.
