IntaForensics will be welcoming BlackBag into our Stafford facility in January and February for two separate forensic training courses.

BlackLight tool training

The first is a two day free Training Tools course on the 24th and 25th January 2017. Instructed by BlackBag’s Forensic Analyst and Instructor, Tim Thorne, the course will cover the use of BlackLight through different exercises and hands-on practical case studies, a digital forensic tool that is designed to help investigators conduct digital forensic examinations on all four major platforms (Windows, Android, iPhone and Mac OS X). At the conclusion of this course, students will have a comprehensive understanding of how to use BlackLight. In addition to this, the course will culminate in an opportunity to take the exam for BlackBag’s new Certified BlackLight Examiner (CBE) designation, available only through this course.

Essential Forensic Techniques

Following this, in February, BlackBag will be providing paid for training in Essential Forensic Techniques. There will be two types of courses on offer; the standard and the advanced, these will be running back to back over the course of two weeks. The first – Essential Forensic techniques I – will commence on the 20th February 2017 and the second – Essential Forensic techniques II – will commence on the 27th February 2017.

Essential Forensic Techniques I

Essential Forensic Techniques I is composed of the essential techniques that every forensic professional needs. Instructed by Tim Thorne, EFT I is the perfect way to quickly and effectively learn how to navigate the most important Mac, iPhone and PC device areas. This course will guide students through all the pertinent forensic strategies for finding key data within Mac OS X, iPhone, iPad, and Windows operating systems, all while looking directly at case data. Running for 5 days, with a course credit of 32 hours, by the end of this course, students will have reviewed three different case scenarios, learning triage and analysis techniques through the instructor-led practicals. At the conclusion of the course, a written and practical assessment will evaluate each student’s comprehension of the material.

Essential Forensic Techniques II

Commencing on the 27th February for 5 days and 32 credit hours, as the second part of BlackBag’s Essential Forensic Techniques series, the course is targeted toward students who have completed EFT I. Essentials Forensic Techniques II will delve into more complex concepts, including the specific data points found within any iOS, Windows and/or Mac OS X analysis. BlackBag’s instructors will guide students through methods of discover for new application data, analysis of known data, and best reporting practices. At the conclusion of this course, students will have reviewed three different case scenarios, learning about specific file system date artefacts, gaining access to passwords, and navigating Time Machine backups. As with the first course, Essential Forensics II includes a written and practical assessment of the students’ comprehension of the material.
