ISO 17025 Consultancy

ISO/IEC 17025:2017 is an international quality standard establishing requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories. It is structured around a quality management system that details an organisation’s policies and procedures for controlling business operations to consistently meet customer requirements, alongside the implementation of actions to address risks and opportunities, and requirements for the competence, impartiality and consistent operation of the laboratory. Laboratories that conform to this standard also operate generally in accordance with the principles of ISO 9001.

Challenges of Implementing ISO 17025

ISO 17025 is not a forensic standard, it applies to testing and calibration laboratories from many types of industry and therefore it requires a degree of interpretation to effectively implement the requirements within a forensic environment. Once established however, the forensic laboratory can benefit from the improvements the quality management system and technical requirements bring to the accredited organisation, along with the increase to professional reputation and standing in the industry.
