The National Police Improvement Agency (NPIA) is running a pilot scheme to try to help bring offenders in crimes such as homicide, domestic violence, fraud or the distribution of indecent images of children to justice more quickly.

The pilot scheme was designed to help police forces that had faced a huge growth in e-crime submissions in some cases the growth of submissions has been over 300%.

At present Police forces tackle the e-forensics process in different ways, under this new pilot scheme the processes for submitting and analysing computer and mobile devices will standardised across 6 forces through a single management system.

A central unit has been set up in Nottinghamshire where e-forensic submissions will be assessed and prioritised before analysis commences.

HTCU’s from Northamptonshire, Derbyshire, Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire are involved in the trial.
