Raising the Understanding of Cyber Security Threats

1 November 2011

As part of the UK Cyber Security Month, IntaForensics Managing Director Andy Frowen participated in a Cyber Security Round Table hosted by UKFast, a leading ISP based in Manchester. The event was part of the national Cyber Security Month, organised to coincide with the release of the new UK Cyber Security Strategy.

The discussion amongst academic and industry leaders covered the rising external threat to companies when looking to protect their intellectual property, customer data and financial information, as well as the ever present threat to the same information from inside sources.

An increasing number of companies are becoming aware of the loss of data through employees, contractors and former employees. In cases where companies have investigated data has been lost covering intellectual property, industrial designs, customer spend data, customer databases, sensitive financial information and personnel records.

Evidence of such incidents can be recovered through computer forensic analysis, and by mobile phone forensic analysis. Evidence can also be gathered from networks, servers and other devices to support such investigations. Forensically sound information gathering is important to help companies obtain court admissible evidence for future court cases or even for use in negotiations prior to any formal court proceedings.

The experts at the event were asked to give their Top Tip for companies in terms of cyber security.
