With over a dozen armed robberies committed across multiple towns and involving a coordinated group of individuals, the investigation required a methodical approach to establish the presence and movement of each suspect. The police had seized multiple mobile devices, but without clear attribution or contextual analysis, the raw call data alone could not conclusively link the individuals to the scenes of the crimes.
The offences took place in various locations across the West Midlands and Staffordshire, often during late-night hours or just before business closing times. Investigators faced the challenge of connecting suspects to specific locations during specific time windows without relying solely on CCTV or forensic trace evidence.
The volume of data was also significant. With months of activity to review, including thousands of call records, texts, and cell site connections, the case demanded expert-level analysis to extract meaningful patterns. It was essential not only to assess the presence of devices at key locations but also to interpret the mobile network behaviour in relation to the timing, geography, and logistics of each offence.
