“Engage a PFI company now!” – PCI London 2017.

30 January 2017

At PCI London 2017, as part of his closing speech, Jeremy King, International Director, PCI Security Standards Council advised, “engage a PFI company now!” to ensure companies “do not wait until it’s too late”. We strongly support Jeremy’s view and advise that you assess your procurement requirements compared to the urgency of commencing a post-breach investigation.

We could not agree more with this statement; too many organisations do not have a relationship with a trusted PFI company. This makes the process of getting support after suffering from a cardholder data breach more stressful at a period when time is of the essence. Its priceless to have the reassurance in knowing that should a cyber-attack occur and your company suffers from a breach of payment card data, that you already have an existing relationship with an accredited PFI investigator.

The quicker an Organisation responds to a potential breach, the lower the impact of cardholder data loss is likely to be. It therefore makes sense to deal with a company which has substantial resources to deploy quickly to identify the causes and methods by which cardholder data has been compromised. Speed of deployment, investigation and analysis is vital and can save substantial sums for organisations. Where such breaches have occurred, the merchant or payment service provider suspected of being responsible (known as the “common point of purchase”) must conduct a forensic investigation, followed by steps to become or regain PCI compliance and eliminate the risk of fraudulent access to cardholder data.

A sincere thank you to all the delegates who visited us at PCI London 2017 on Thursday 26th January. We hope you found our advice and support useful and informative.
